2013 Commencement Held at SCBC

On June 22, 1775 SCBC graduates were conferred bachelor’s degree at the 2013 Commencement held at the Business Plaza. This has been the second degree-conferring exercise since SCBC was granted the right to confer bachelor’s degree by the Guangdong Academic Degrees Committee in 2011.

President Xu Zhenhua delivered a speech to express his congratulations and wishes to all the graduating students. Other speakers at the ceremony included Ms. Cheng Henan, Ms Liao Haiyan, and Miss Xie Mali, who were representatives of the faculty, parents of graduates, and graduating students respectively.

SCBC president and vice presidents awarded honorary certificates to 147 graduates with Excellent Honors Degree, 149 graduates as Honor Roll Students, and 82 graduates with Distinction. Alumni liaisons were also accorded letters of appointment.

In groups all the degree candidates went up to the stage to receive diploma certificates and congratulations from President Xu, who gave them a warm handshake and shifted the tassels on their caps to the left as a symbol of graduation.

51 Fresh Graduates Admitted Postgraduate Candidates

The recent announcements of postgraduate admission results by colleges and universities in China have brought more good news to SCBC. As of June 16, a total of 51 graduates have received admission notices for postgraduate studies at colleges and universities at home and abroad.

Four of the postgraduate candidates will continue their studies in four mainland universities, namely, South China University of Technology, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Fujian Normal University, and Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University. Another four will go to Hong Kong Baptist University and the Hong Kong Institute of Education in Hong Kong SAR. The remaining 43 graduates are admitted to colleges and universities in overseas countries, including such world-known universities as Sydney University in Australia, University of Madrid in Spain, and University of Leeds in Britain.

This year, SCBC graduates are admitted into more fields of studies in universities of wider regions than in previous years. Noticeably, Lü Hui of International Business (taught in English) major has received offers from three famous universities in Britain, which are Manchester University, Southampton University, and Nottingham Trent University.
