SCBC Students Visit Chinese Embassy in Lithuania
On June 4, SCBC’s student participants in the “China-EU Management Innovation Plan” paid a visit to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Lithuania. Ambassador Liu Zengwen received the students and talked with them about such issues as Sino-Lithuania ties, bilateral trades, Chinese people living in Lithuania, etc. Meanwhile, the ambassador introduced the operation and the routines of the Chinese embassy to the students, and also shared his own life story with them.
Ms. Lozano from Celaya University in Mexico Visits SCBC
Ms. Cintya Lozano, dean of the International Trade and Logistics Department of Celaya University in Mexico, led a delegation to visit SCBC on June 5. She exchanged ideas on several partnership issues with SCBC and agreed on certain areas of cooperation. On the afternoon, Ms. Lozano and her colleagues gave an impressive Spanish lecture to students of SCBC’s European Languages and Cultures Department, in which the guests introduced the customs, attractions and specialties of Mexico. Intrigued by the fascinating Mexican culture, the audience was very excited in the discussion, practicing their Spanish with the speakers.
English-Only Talk: Marriage Culture
Sponsored by the Department of College English, a new section of English-only Talks invited Diab, a foreign teacher of SCBC, to give a talk entitled “Marriage Culture” on June 5. In the talk, Diab explained to the audience the different types of marriages and marriage cultures around the world, particularly the procedures in traditional western wedding ceremony, namely, entering the church, unveiling the bride, exchange of wedding vows and rings, cutting a wedding cake, throwing rice, and leaving for honeymoon.
Students of Japanese Learn and Practice at Neusoft Institute in Nanhai, Foshan
On June 6, students of Japanese from SCBC’s Department of Asian Languages and Cultures took a Learn-and-Practice lesson at Neusoft Institute of Information Technology located in Nanhai District, Foshan City. Together with the instructor, the students visited the Institute’s Tea House where they enjoyed the Japanese cuisine including sushi, ramen and curry-seasoned rice specially prepared for them by the host. Later, they attended a lecture about Japanese tea culture and then had a discussion on the topic with teachers and students of the Institute.
SCBC’s 3rd Teaching Competition for Middle-aged and Young Teachers
After the preliminary selections, 17 teachers from various departments stood out and made the final round of SCBC’s 3rd Teaching Competition for Middle-aged and Young Teachers on June 6. Divided into two groups of foreign languages and non-foreign language, the contestants took on the challenge of presenting a lecture before the expert judges and the student judges, who then rated their performances in terms of their syllabus designs, teaching methods, and students participations after the 20-minute teaching and 5-minute Q&A sections.
The 3rd Workplace Simulation Contest Held at SCBC
Recently, the 3rd Workplace Simulation Contest was held by the Department of English Language and Culture. The contest, with foreign teacher John as one of the judges, was divided into two sections. In the first section, all members of each team delivered a PowerPoint presentation of the team’s marketing solution for “Wang Lao Ji”, a famous brand of traditional Chinese herbal tea. In the second section, the competing teams first had an intense discussion on how to tackle the problems and challenges facing the Finnish cell-phone brand “Nokia”, and then one representative of each team gave a summary of the team’s viewpoints on the stage.
The First English Interpreting Competition Held at SCBC
On June 6, the First English Interpreting Competition was held by the Department of English Language and Culture at Room G107. The six classes of Grade 2010 competed against one another as teams, each represented by four debaters and four interpreters. The competition consisted of two parts, “Debating & Interpreting” and “Consecutive Interpreting”, which were designed to challenge the contestants’ ability to respond quickly and interpreting skills, such as short-term memory, speaking in public, note-taking, and coping tactics.
The 3rd Dragon Boat Race Held on Campus
From June 7 to June 9, SCBC’s 3rd Dragon Boat Race was held on the lake by the Business Plaza on the campus. In the race, 9 staff teams and 24 student teams competed for the best ranking in the two rounds of competition. With a total of 593 racers, among whom there were foreign teachers and students, this year’s event received greater participation than in previous years. After three days of competition, Logistics Service Team (belonging to the first and second Labor Unions) won over other staff teams on the 100-meter straight racing, and the student teams from the Department of International Trade and Economics ranked No. 1 in the total scores of male, female and mixed 100-meter straight racings.
The 2nd Japanese Recital Held at SCBC
Sponsored by the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, the 2nd Japanese Recital was held at Room F102 on June 9. After careful preparations, 15 finalists in the recital, who were selected from the preliminary contests in different Japanese classes, elaborated vividly an interesting story of “The Pear Seller and the Immortal” to the judges and the audience.
SCBC Student Awarded Entrance Scholarship by Canada’s St Mary’s University
Recently, Feng Weijie, a student from Grade 2011 of SCBC’s International Innovation Class, has received an entrance scholarship of 2, 000 Canadian dollars from St Mary’s University in Canada, thanks to his outstanding academic performance. When Canadian or international students apply to St Mary’s University, if their average is the equivalent of 80% or above, they will be awarded entrance scholarships.
