SCBC Teacher Wins Second in College English Teaching Competition
Ms. Li Yanling, a teacher from SCBC’s Department of College English, stood out among the ten finalists of the Comprehensive Course Group and ranked the second in the 4th “SFLEP Cup” National Foreign Language Teaching Contest (Guangdong) held at the South Campus of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies on May 25. In the competition, Ms. Li had showcased her excellent English language proficiency and teaching competence, scoring only 0.129 under the first prize winner.
Dr. Ma Zaoming Attends ERASMUS Congress and Exhibition 2013 in Poland
Recently, Dr. Ma Zaoming, a SCBC’s consultant, had been invited to attend the 9th annual ERASMUS Congress and Exhibition 2013 held at Adam Mickiewicz University Poznan in Poland.
Present at the Congress were representatives of over 300 colleges and universities from more than 30 countries, such as the U.K., France, Italy, the U.S., Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Czech Republic, Russia, Turkey, and Lithuania. Many themes on international cooperation and exchanges were discussed in the meeting, among which were student and teacher mobility between international institutions, credit transfer system, and ERASMUS scholarship projects.
SCBC, as the only Chinese college invited to the Congress, had attracted special attention in the Exhibition 2013, when 15 colleges and universities from the U.K., Spain, Austria, Poland, and Lithuania expressed the willingness to establish partnership with SCBC with regard to teacher and student exchanges, 2+2 programs, postgraduate programs, and mutual exemption from tuition fees for such exchanges and programs.
Vice-Chancellor of West England University Visits SCBC
Prof. Steven West, Vice-Chancellor of the University of West England, headed a delegation to visit SCBC on the afternoon of May 27. In the meeting, the two sides discussed such issues as co-education projects, teacher and student exchanges. The cooperation between the two institutions started in 2011. Now 18 SCBC outstanding students have been sent to the University of West England for exchange studies between 2012 and 2013.
Mr. Liang Xiaoqi Attends Symposium on Foreign Teachers Affairs
Recently, Mr. Liang Xiaoqi, director of International Cooperation and Exchange Division of SCBC, had been invited to attend a symposium on the management and services for foreign teachers held by Guangdong Provincial Bureau for Foreign Expert Affairs. Mr. Liang, together with other attendants from more than ten colleges and universities in the province, introduced the methods, lessons, and problems of foreign teachers affairs management, and left useful opinions and suggestions on enhancing the management and service for foreign teachers so as to maximize their role in college education.
10 SCBC Students Join China-EU Management Innovation Plan in Lithuania
On May 27, ten SCBC students, together with over 70 students from ten other countries, arrived at the International School of Law and Business, Vilnius in the Republic of Lithuania to join the “China-EU Management Innovation Plan”.
As a representative for Chinese colleges and universities, a SCBC student presented a speech at the opening ceremony to express Chinese students’ aspiration to take part in international cultural exchanges. The speaker also introduced SCBC, and its international-oriented philosophy of education, and the international cooperation and exchanges.
In the two-week project, all the student participants would have worked in 15 multicultural teams on a service innovation design assignment for real Lithuanian companies.
Former Ambassador to Cameroon Talks on Sino-Africa Relations
On May 30, the 29th section of SCBC’s “Liberal Arts Forum” invited Mr. Xue Jinwei, former ambassador to Cameroon, to give a talk entitled “The Development of Sino-Africa Relations” at Lecture Hall C201, where the speaker explained to the audience present the three phases of development of Sino-Africa ties.
