Dean from Far Eastern University in the Philippines Visits SCBC
Dr. Myrna Quinto, dean of the Institute of Arts and Sciences at Far Eastern University in the Philippines, headed a delegation to visit SCBC on the morning of May 23, and was received by Mr. Lai Zhili, vice president of SCBC. On the afternoon, Dr. Quinto and his delegation participated in a seminar at Room C202, where teachers from the Departments of English Language & Culture and College English discussed and exchanged ideas with the guests on several pedagogical issues about language and literature classes.
Mr. Liang Xiaoqi Visits Argentine Consulate General in Guangzhou
On the morning of May 21, Mr. Liang Xiaoqi, director of International Cooperation and Exchange Division, headed a delegation to visit the Consulate General of the Argentine Republic in Guangzhou, and was received by Consul General Mr. Julio Freyre. The Consul General said there had been few cultural and educational exchanges between colleges and universities in Guangdong Provinces and their counterparts in Argentina. He especially applauded SCBC’s initiative in this regard and hoped that such cooperation will become true soon in the future.
English Space Time: Let’s Enjoy Music
Sponsored by the Department of College English, a new section of English Space Time featured “Music and Famous Singers”, was held on May 21 at Room F403 and hosted by Ms. Baron, a foreign teacher of SCBC. Ms. Baron invited the students present to talk about their favorite singers and songs, and sang together with them. With wonderful music and songs around, everyone felt excited and overjoyed throughout the occasion.
110 Thousand Yuan in Aid to Financially Inadequate Students
Recently, SCBC has decided to appropriate a total of RMB 113, 085 yuan as one-time grant-in-aid to 36 financially inadequate students after several rounds of reviews and interviews. Each recipient will be granted a minimum amount of RMB 3,000 yuan.
The 4th Foreign Language Singing Competition: the Charm of Language
Co-organized by the Department of English Language and Culture and the Department of European Languages and Cultures, the final round of the 4 Foreign Language Singing Competition was held at the Business Plaza on the night of May 15.
The foreign languages songs in the competition were the highlight of the night. Ms. Nadège, a foreign student from France and contestant No. 10, charmed the audience with a lovely English song. The fifth contestant Xia Erni had everyone’s cheers and applauses with her magnetic voice in a Korean song “One, two, Three, Four”. Contestant No. 3, Liu Zhikun, won the heart of the judges with her fantastic performance of singing a Spanish song. Chen Xin, the winner of last year’s English Talent Show, topped all the singers with a beautifully-sung “I Believe” in the second round of the competition.
